Ben's Admonition (2002)

Two men hang suspended, tethered together at the ankles. Their bare chests, fatigues and heavy boots suggest combat as the two commence an intricate dance of interdependence and separation. Swinging and spinning alternately from their wrists and feet in eloquent slow motion, they veer from moments of conflict to tender mutual support, from isolation to friendship. Inspired by Ben Franklin's admonition: “We must, indeed, all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

“[A] new work that suggests Chase can blend narrative and acrobatic movement into a third thing that is pure metaphor.”
